Volunteer at a workparty

The Trust runs regular workparties to clear noxious weeds from Gerry’s Rock. We welcome new volunteers.https://burnsreserve.nz/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Orchid-for-website.jpg

We meet at the bend on Signal Hill Road (see map) just past the stone walled farm buildings on the right. From there we carpool up to Bryan’s Stile. The walk in to Gerry’s Rock takes up to 30 minutes.  The group is back at the cars by the advertised finish time.  Please note that the reserve around Gerry’s Rock is steep and you will need a good level of fitness for this work.

People can contribute to workparties at whatever level they are happy with, and work at their own pace.   If it is rainy the work party may be postponed to the Sunday. Call the coordinator (below) to check, or look at our FB page

(Daylight saving starts 27 September 2026 – change to earlier start time over summer.)

Sat 12 December 2026       9 am – 12.30 pm

Sat 2 January 2027             9 am – 12.30 pm (Day after New Year)

Sat 27 March 2027             9 am – 12.30 pm (Easter Saturday)

Bring with you:-

• Boots

• Parka, Warm clothes, Warm hat / or sunhat and sunscreen in summer

• Gardening gloves, Tools (secateurs, loppers, pruning saw)

• Morning tea, Drink (many of us bring a thermos for a warm drink)

• Backpack

• The track down to Gerry’s Rock will be greasy, so a walking pole may be helpful.

Be prepared for changeable weather. Volunteers are asked to complete a volunteer agreement and to follow our Health and Safety plan .  
People can contribute at whatever level they are happy with, and work at their own pace.
